What if I mess up my ear impression?

Tell us and we will send you another impression kit, free. There is no fee and no argument. Our lab checks every impression when it arrives — if it is not good enough to build from, we do not build from it. We would rather send a second kit than build a set around a bad mold.

Can I hurt myself taking an ear impression at home?

No. The oto-block seats first and physically stops the silicone at a safe depth, so it cannot travel too far into the ear canal. The silicone is soft, sets in about five minutes, and the impression lifts right back out. It takes 10 to 15 minutes and is easier with a helper. A guided video is included in the kit.

Do I have to take the impression myself?

No. You can have your impressions taken in person at any of Big Ear's 50+ provider locations, or by an audiologist or hearing-aid centre, and send those instead.

Whatever it says above is what it says, we're not going to hide it, and we're not going to pretend it away. A perfect score is easy to manufacture, ask only your happiest customers, or simply don't ask at all and let the frustrated minority write the whole record. A real number, built from people who actually bought the thing, tells you more about who we are than a curated 5.0 ever could.

What the criticism is actually about

We read every word of it, so we can tell you plainly: it is almost never the earplugs. It's the wait, and it's us going quiet during it. We're a small family shop that hand-builds every single set to one person's ears, and when we've fallen behind, some people waited longer than we told them they would, and couldn't reach us to find out why. That's on us. It's the thing we're working hardest to fix.

What we won't do

We won't rush the build to protect a number. We build to an extremely strict standard, and craftsmanship takes time. 40 business days from the day your impressions reach the lab is not a delay; it is the standard that separates us from everyone else in this industry. If a set doesn't meet it, it doesn't leave the building.

What we are fixing

The silence. You will hear from us at every stage of your build, and if anything pushes past 40 business days, we will tell you before you have to ask. That's not a slogan; it's the specific, checkable promise we're holding ourselves to. And if your set doesn't seal the way it should once it arrives, the Perfect-Fit Promise means we remake it. No arguing about whose fault it was, we just fix it.
